Amazon Elastic Load Balancing

Elastic Load Balancing automatically distributes incoming application traffic across multiple Amazon EC2 instances. It enables you to achieve fault tolerance in your applications, also providing the required amount of load balancing capacity needed to route application traffic. Elastic Load Balancing offers two types of load balancers that both feature high availability, automatic scaling, and robust security. These include the Classic Load Balancer that routes traffic based on either application or network level information, and the Application Load Balancer that routes traffic based on advanced application level information that includes the content of the request.


This lab Will cover following steps which is as bellow,

  1. Created an Elastic Load Balancer.
  2. Added Instances to Elastic Load Balancer.

Step 1: Login using appropriate credential for AWS

First of all you have to login in AWS to access the services,


Step 2: Creating an Elastic Load Balancer

To create Elastic Load Balancer just go to the AWS management console, and go to services and click on EC2.

After selecting EC2 instance we can see a Load balancers in left side panel, click on that option,

After click on button which is on top of the page name of that button is Create Load Balancer,

After click on that button,Select classic option for Load Balancer and hit on continue,


After select the type of Load balancer, In further there are few steps to create Load Balancer. First one is to give name of the load balancer,

After that just select a security group for that load balancer, in here also you can create a new one if you want,

After that configure a Health checkup means we can manage a ping protocols like HTTP, TCP, SSL and HTTPS using specific port number and also a path of the page, in second part you can also provide an response timeout of the request and also what is the maximum interval of the waiting,


After that Select which Instance we want to add in this Load Balancer and check them and click on Add tag,


After getting Success of creating Load Balancer just select that new load balancer and go to the description and see a DNS name,



Elastic Load Balancing distributes incoming application traffic across multiple EC2 instances, in multiple Availability Zones. This increases the fault tolerance of your applications. The load balancer serves as a single point of contact for clients, which increases the availability of your application. In this lab we know how to create Elastic Load Balancer and hot to attach with multiple EC2 Instances.


In Elastic Load Balancer, you only pay what you use. You are charged per hour or how many hours your load balancer running and each GB of data transferred through load balancer. The charges also base on region like for Sydney they will charge $0.028 per hour or partial hour else $0.008 per GB of data processed by load balancer. SO it is depend which one is better like hourly charge or as per data transfer. It is up to organization and the work of that organization.

To manage a cost make sure if you add instance for the traffic management after the decreasing the flow of the traffic, remove the additional instance from the ELB so you will not getting charge for that which is not useful for you.
